The Online Professional English Network (the “Program”) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by FHI 360 (acting as joint controllers, which means both groups are making decisions about what data is collected and for what purposes). FHI 360 collects and processes your personal information on behalf of the Program to manage your account creation, nomination, registration, enrollment and participation in the Program, including but not limited to online courses, the OPEN Community of Practice (COP), webinars, and alumni engagement opportunities. FHI 360 is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information in connection with management of and participation in the Program.

1. What we need

The following types of data we collect from you on behalf of the Program could include but may not be limited to: Name, e-mail address(es), phone number(s), citizenship, country of residence, gender, educational history, employment history, username, and password.

2. Why we need it

The lawful basis for FHI 360 to collect your personal information is the legitimate interest of FHI 360 and the U.S. Department of State. We need your personal information in order to facilitate your participation in the Program, including but not limited to supporting successful account creation and registration, enrolling you in online courses, providing access to a Community of Practice (CoP), and identifying opportunities for participation in the program as an alumnus.

3. What we do with it

FHI 360 will only use your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. Your personal information may be shared with FHI 360 staff members who legitimately need the information to carry out their duties to support your participation in the program, with the U.S. Department of State and relevant U.S. Embassies, English Language Fellows or Specialists working with U.S. Embassies to support the Online Professional English Network, U.S. academic institutions who are contracted by the program to provide course instruction, consultants engaged by the program to provide course instruction, and other program participants who may be assigned as Mentors or Facilitators to support your participation in the Program.

Personal information may be transferred outside your country. While these countries may have different, and in some cases possibly weaker, data protection laws, personal information shall not be transferred to another country without an adequate level of protection or the appropriate safeguards in place to protect your rights and freedoms.

4. How long we keep it

FHI 360 will only keep your personal information for as long as we need it to fulfill the purposes for which we initially collected it.

5. Your Rights

Depending on your country of residence, you may have the right to:
  • Review the data we hold about you at any time;
  • Request correction of any data that is not personally editable by you;
  • Request that we stop using all or part of your personal information;
  • Request that we delete or remove personal information;
  • File a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You may withdraw your consent to this data collection and processing at any time, but you will no longer be able to participate in the Program. To exercise your rights, send written notice to FHI 360, referencing the Online Professional English Network:
